Vmware Error Performing Disk Cleanup Cannot Power Off
VCP3, VCP4, VCP5, VTSP, VSP, ITIL Foundation 2+3, PRINCE2 Foundation, MCP. Obviously this isn't ideal when we might be speaking about 11TB VMDK's (22TB datastore!!). Anyway, I just thought I'd post this in-case anyone else experiences this or similar issues or has any further insight into this issue.ThanksAdrian pgitdept Influencer Posts: 17 Liked: 14 times Need 17 MB of free space (2758767 MB available) 2012-12-03T17:46:49.186Z| SnapshotVMXCombiner| DISKLIB-DDB : "longContentID" = "0e420827f23a746867b82f7d3baa2e7c" (was "a1de5811fe251cf1dd095dbe2c395696") 2012-12-03T17:47:11.834Z| vmx| PIIX4: Requesting power-off... 2012-12-03T17:47:11.834Z| vmx| Msg_Post: Error 2012-12-03T17:47:11.834Z| vmx| [msg.poweroff.commitOn] http://dirsubmit.net/virtual-machine/vmware-performing-disk-cleanup-cannot-power-off.html
consolidation was needed again. This removes the new snapshot as well as the 'defect' snapshot. However, with 28 TB storage in the VM, this was not an option. In our first instance we changed the scsi controller from Paravirtual to LSI Logic SAS and were then able to consolidate and the problem didn't return on that VM. The other day we had a rather large VM (with 20 GB mem, 8 vCPUs and 28 TB storage divided on 22 .vmdk's) that crashed during a snapshot commit. Both the old and new LUN location had less free space than the actual disk size (1.95TB) so the precise check is still occurring.

Had to restart mgmt-vmware and it killed the backup. In Snapshot When I looked at the disk activity on the server where the Veeam backups reside it was at 100% activity the entire time. 0 Cayenne OP Breakingcustom It is not Veeam's problem, it's the way ESXi 5.5 behaves comparing to 5.1.VMware will most likely recommend to increase the time for which the VM is allowed to be paused
So we extended the LUN and datastore so we had enough free space and ran the consolidate task again. The consolidation failing was happening every night on this VM and this fix would work every time in the morning.

Join & Write a Comment Already a member? We're good to go!In addition to these new servers we needed to accomodate our existing VM's and so needed to upgrade our 5.1 hosts. On top of that, could you please tell what ESX(i) version are you using to run those VMs? navigate here Seems like the actual running of the cleanup gets lost, host overloaded or some kind of a command queue loss??Anyway, i am trying to find a good way in trying to
Adding it to skip list.We can see that there is a process that calculates if there is enough space free for consolidation and if this process does not complete in 12 However, 22 delta files on a single LUN was telling otherwise. Some times we can consolidate just fine, other times is doesn't work. The yellow triangle was the 'VM needs it's disks consolidating' message with no snaps present in Snapshot Manager.
